When speaking with college coaches you need to be prepared to ask questions to gather the information you need to get a better idea if that school and football program is a good fit for you. Remember it is a two way street, as the coach is checking you out, you are checking things out at the same time.
The coach will be impressed that you did your homework when your asking questions. Asking questions is all a part of the recruiting process. There are lots of questions that you can ask coaches that would never think of without getting some guidance. Get a copy of the "Guide For The College Bound Student-athlete" from the NCAA. To stimulate thought for you I have listed ten very good questions below.
1) How many other student-athletes are seriously recruiting at my position?
2) What has the team record been the past few seasons?
2) What are the strength and conditioning requirements each year?
4) When does your contract expire?
5) Describe the typical day for a student-athlete?
6) How is the support of the local community? What is there to do with some spare time?
7) What types of financial aid are typically available for student-athletes like me?
8) If I'm injured, what happens to my financial aid?
9) What's the best way to stay in touch with you?
10) What's the next step? What should "we" do from here?
I hope this short list of questions help. Keep in mind that you are competing against thousands of other athletes and you need every edge that you can get. By asking questions a college coach will sense your interest. College coaches want to know that you are interested in their programs.
