The Saints' Super Bowl Victory

On February 7, 2010, the mighty New Orleans Saints won Super Bowl 44, which was the first such victory in the history of the franchise. Many sports analysts counted them out and said they didn't stand a chance against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. They were the underdogs and there was no way they could win the Super Bowl. They were wrong.

The Saints took the field believing they could defeat the Colts. The game got off to a slow start, but it quickly switched gears in the second quarter. Completing passes anywhere he wanted, the Saints starting Quarterback Drew Brees took over the game. There was nothing the Colts could do. The Saints scored points every time they had the ball.

Closing out the third quarter in control of the game it was obvious that the Saints were going to win. The Saints had total control of the game on both offense and defense. The Saints were on their way to making history. This was their destiny.

With only three minutes left in regulation, corner back Tony Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown. This was the last score the Saints needed to secure the Super Bowl victory giving them their spot in the NFL history books. Manning and the colts did get the ball back with one more chance to score, but they came up empty as time ran out.

What a game for the Saints who used to be called the Aint's by their own fans because they were just that poor of a team. Funny how things change. Once the laughing stock of the NFL, the Saints are now World Champions and very deserving of that title. Taking the Lombardi trophy back to New Orleans was something that Brees only dreamed of. After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina this was a way to let the people of the city know that dreams do come true no matter how bad things may seem.
