Boost Team Spirit! Great Ideas For High School Sports Booster Clubs

July had become our new vacation month. After years of dodging the "dog days" of August up in Lake George, NY our family had to adapt to a new schedule. Starting in 1995, August revolved around High School fall sports and their pre-season practices. So over the years as our four participated in soccer, field hockey and football during the month of August, I became involved with the various team booster clubs. While the kids ran, lifted, sweated and practiced, I was busy with the Boosters getting activities planned for the season. High school sports booster clubs, if run with spirit and enthusiasm, are a great means of boosting team spirit.

Between our four children and all the various sports, we have had both superstars and bench sitters. However, I think they would all agree that team sports overall were a great experience. By broadening the focus of the various high school sports booster clubs from fund raising to "fun raising", these organizations can enhance the team experience and encourage team spirit.. Booster clubs can help make each player feel a sense of belonging. Over the years, our Booster Club activities ranged from Team Tailgates, to door decorating, player gifts and Kick Off parties. By providing some balance of fun with the rigors of athletics, booster clubs can spread the team spirit. It takes time and energy to put together a pre-game breakfast for 80 football players, but it is well worth the effort. What started as a pre-playoff event, turned into a weekly Saturday morning café hosted by the Dads! It was such a huge hit, that by the time my younger son was playing, we could have run a restaurant. For Friday night games, we organized "post walk through" dinners on Thursday nights.

Our girls were not left out in the cold. Soccer and Field Hockey benefited from booster club energies. They had a season Family Kick Off party. Funds short.. we improvised and assigned each grade level a category; desserts, drinks or salads. Seniors exempt! We used booster club funds for the pizzas. It was the perfect compromise! For more fun, we let the kids design team practice shirts, complete with their own tag line. They were meant for the practice field but the kids wore them all over the place. We made "pride pins" with the team mascot, player name and number for the parents. These buttons were so popular that they found their way into the locker rooms and a generic version turned out to be a great club fundraiser!

So as your son or daughter heads out to the practice field this August, find out who is running their team booster club and volunteer. Your child will appreciate it, you will enjoy it and you will have a whole new group of friends by the end of the season. We still have "team reunion" parties with one of our booster groups and it is 6years later. Check out some more fun team spirit ideas at Celebration Ideas Online Team Spirit Ideas

NFL Sports Fans Are Notorious For Their Passion

Fans of NFL football are among the worlds most devoted sports fans and are relentless in their team devotion. Although there is no one factor that accounts for why NFL fans love their teams, for fans of the game, there are enough reasons to set aside at least one day per week for gathering in excitement while watching the game, whether live in the stadium or live on the big screen TV.

Some of the reasons why NFL teams attract the ultimate sports fans include entertainment, escape, gambling, family, group belonging, self-esteem, and just getting worked up about whether the future holds a win or a loss. Most of these reasons belong to all fans, but some are more motivating than others. According to researchers, team devotion is the main reason NFL fans devote themselves to the game. Football fans are some of the craziest out there and if you have a ticket to a live game, you will more than likely witness their antics if you get close seats to the more fanatic sections of the stadium.

NFL sports fans are notorious for their passion, even in the worst of economic conditions. In addition to following the game live, fans are very active online, and they're not just consuming sports information, they're creating it too through forums and blog commenting. Such online social media arenas enable NFL fans to gather together and share the latest news and talk about the games.

Like with most major sports around the world, owning a team jersey is important part of being a fan. No matter which team they like, NFL fans are usually desperate to own and wear their team's jersey, especially with their favorite player's name and number on it. Such souvenir jerseys are handed down from generation to generation and become family tradition. Whatever the reason for loving NFL sports, and whatever team is attracting the fans to the tailgate or the TV, this sport is truly an American sports fan tradition.

Sports Betting Champ Honest Review

The Sports Betting Champ is a betting system created by John Morrison. According to his website, he graduated from Cornell University and has a PhD degree in statistics. I don't really know if that's true or not but that's not important because like many of you sports fans out there, I'm pretty sure you've made a couple of sports bets in your life especially during the NCAA playoffs, NBA finals or the big mother of them all...the Superbowl.

If you look at his website, you will notice a tremendous amount of customer testimonials mostly by way of YouTube. There are some handwritten, email and audio testimonials as well. Never have I visited a site chuck full of testimonials. Also, his website claims he wins 97% of his sports bets. That's insane! Now, I've tried sports betting online before and most of the time I lost. I've tried sports handicappers and statistics tip sheets but their winning percentage only comes to around 60%-75% which is actually pretty good but for this guy to say that he wins 97% of the time, I just had to check it out.

First thing I did was contact John Morrison. I asked a few simple questions just to see if he would reply back because for those of you that are veterans of affiliate marketing, we all know that there are some creators or authors out there who you never hear from again after purchasing their system. He answered back the next day...that's a good sign.

The next day, I bought the system and here's what I got. I got 3 ebooks. One for the NBA, MLB and NFL. You also get to subscribe to his list where he will email you the picks when he finds a good opportunity to bet on. Personally, I signed up for his picks because even though his system is not complicated, it's definitely something you need to read more than once in order to understand how he arrives at his picks. It's only been a month since I signed up and so far my record for the MLB season is 21-0. That's pretty damn good!

Also included in his package are bonus details he gives you when you sign up using the sportsbook/bookmaker he recommends. The bonus only works if you're a new customer so if for some reason you're already using the bookmaker he recommends then I don't know if you're eligible for the bonus. If not, then there's two other bookmaker he recommends and they're both good and reputable as well. Another little freebie he gives is a Las Vegas 3 days and 2 nights vacation for 2 for a special price once you sign up for this travel agency. I, myself, was not interested in this offer so I don't particularly care for it.

Now let me explain something here because I don't want you to get confused. When you look at sports betting systems that boast 50-2 or 21-0 records, that's not to say that their system never lost a bet. I doubt that there's a sports betting system or software that can predict a winner 100% of the time.

Let me explain how this works. When John emails you his picks, you have only 3 betting strategies to worry about. Bet 1, Bet 2, and Bet 3. If you lose Bet 1, you move to Bet 2 and if you lose Bet 2, then you move to Bet 3. This is where the 97% winning picks comes into play because according to John, who says he is a statistics kind of guy, when his picks reaches Bet 3, there a 97% chance of winning that bet, therefore you bet big during this time. Most of the time he's right, but there's still that 3% chance of losing and when you lose Bet 3 that's considered a lost. So you see, 21-0 into this MLB season basically means I had to bet all the way to Bet 3 a couple of times but all of them have been successful...so far! So if you ever go and look at other sports betting systems, don't be fooled by their records, but then again, why would you, this product works and comes highly recommended.

There's really not much left to say except for the fact that his system really works. It sure made a believer out of me and I don't even watch baseball! That's the beauty of John's system. You don't need to know how the game works or even watch the game, all you need to worry about is placing your picks when he emails them to you.

Just to give you an idea of how powerful his system is, here's his record for the last 4 NBA and MLB seasons:

NBA Basketball:

2003-04 season: 68 wins - 2 Losses

2004-05 season: 71 wins - 3 Losses

2005-06 season: 66 wins - 2 Losses

2007-08 season: 79 wins - 1 Loss

2004 season: 48 wins - 0 Losses

Pro Football - Seattle's Only Hope For Sports Success is Now Hiding in a Dumper Somewhere

First the basketball Supersonics were ripped out of Seattle and taken to Oklahoma City. Then the baseball Mariners became the first MLB team to lose 100+ games with a $100 million payroll. Then the football Huskies made Washington the worst college team in the nation by going 0-5 to open their season, becoming the only BCS eligible school without a victory.

Now the football Seahawks have opened their season at 1-3 with a defense so porous that homemakers all over Seattle could use it as a strainer to pass liquids.

The Hawks lost their away opener to the Buffalo Bills 34-10 (the scourge of the AFC East that finished 7-9 last year), lost in overtime at home to the San Francisco 49ers 33-30 (the 49ers finished at 5-11 last year), finally beat the Los Angeles Rams at home 37-13 (the Rams were 3-13 last year), and they lost on the road to the New York Giants 44-6 (the Giants won the Super Bowl last year).

This Sunday (10-12-08) Seattle hosts Green Bay at home. Before arriving in Seattle, Holmgren spent 7 years compiling a 75-37 regular season record with the Packers while winning 3 consecutive NFC Central titles, and making 2 trips to the Super Bowl and winning one.

So how bad are the Seahawks stinking it up on defense this year? Real bad. They rank 24th in rushing defense (among 32 NFL teams), 25th in passing defense, 27th in total defense, and 29th in scoring defense. They have given up 24 big plays of 20+ yards in their first 4 outings.

These negative statistics become more significant when you know that 1) Seattle's defense was much better last year, 2) They led the NFL in fewest touchdown passes allowed last year, and 3) They returned all 11 starters from last year's defensive team.

To add insult to injury, Seattle has not played well on the road and supposedly has an East Coast jinx. Seahawk Coach Mike Holmgren is not hearing or believing any of the East Coast blather. Before the Hawks trip to New York and loss to the Giants, Holmgren said this in no uncertain terms:

"You lose (an away) football game for the same reason you lose a football game at home . . . you lose because you played lousy. You fumbled the ball, you threw interceptions, and you missed tackles. Period. I don't want to hear it."

Mike's an imposing man of size with success and earned authority. When he speaks, you shut-up and listen. When you win 8 NFC Division Titles, take your team to 3 Super Bowl appearances, and win the Super Bowl, then you can speak.

I totally agree with Holmgren. The Seahawks have talent, proven success and experience at key positions. Perhaps the lapse in their away game performance is nothing more or less than a head problem.

The Seahawks have played much better defense at home-where they are fueled by their raucous supporters-than on the road. Cooler heads know that if your play is based more on emotion than self-control, you have a serious problem in that you cannot take the emotional fan support with you on the road.

The more control you have over your thoughts, words, emotions and behavior, the more effective outcomes you will achieve when push comes to shove. That is why smart players stay out of trouble (on and off the field) while other players get into trouble.

When you have a lot of stars on a team-Matt Hasselbeck, Walter Jones, Lofa Tatupu, Julian Peterson, Leroy Hill and Marcus Trufant-sometimes the stars become bigger than the team and there is not enough room on the playing surface to accommodate all of the egos.

Knute Rockne may never have coached pro football, but he was one smart football coach. Here is a quote from Rockne in the 1920s that is applicable today to any team at any place at any level:

"The secret (to success) is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my 11 best, but my best 11." (Read Rockne's last sentence about 20 times and you may get it.) Every team in the NFL has stars, but only one team wins the Super Bowl.

2009 Expert NFL Sports Picks - Dallas Cowboys

The 2008 campaign for the Dallas Cowboys was one of the all-time greatest let downs in the NFL. Before the season, pretty much every pundit and Cowboy fan had them penciled into at least the NFC Championship game if not the Super Bowl. Then, they actually played the season. Once the games played out, the Cowboys were on the outside of the playoffs looking in. The Super Bowl favorite couldn't even win their own division. They even faced a one game playoff against the Eagles to make into the playoffs and got destroyed. It was definitely a year to forget in "Big D". Can the Cowboys turn it around in 2009? If you're looking for free NFL sports picks, don't bet on it.

The Good News: According to Dallas, the best news of the off-season wasn't who they picked up but who they got rid of. Perennial locker room cancer Terrell Owens got shipped out as soon as the season was over. Apparently his absence is supposed to rejuvenate everyone on the team because he was such a distraction. In addition to losing T.O. they picked up Keith Brooking and Igor Olshansky to bolster the defense. They'll also get a boost to their running game with a healthy Marion Barber and Felix Jones in the backfield.

The Bad News: While the good news is that they got rid of T.O., I'm not buying that this is really going to help the offense as a whole. While T.O. might have been a distraction, the guy could play wide receiver. Who are they going to throw to now that he's gone? Underachieving Roy Williams or Patrick Crayton? Are they going to rely on tight end Jason Witten? There are a lot of questions about the Cowboys offense that remain.

Besides the offense, the defense has questions of its own. They lost several players along the way that helped make that unit into a pretty good defense over the last few years. Will they be able to plug in inexperienced players and just keep going? That remains to be seen. They've also still got one of the weakest head coaches in the league in Wade Phillips. His inability to gain control of the team got thrust onto T.O.'s shoulders last year. Who will be the scapegoat this time around?

Outlook: If you think I'm totally against the Cowboys, I'm not. They're going to be a pretty decent team this year. They've still got "poster boy" Tony Romo at quarterback and they've still got several good players. They'll be able to run the ball better this year, which will offset some of the passing game. However, I just see too many holes all over the team to classify the Cowboys as an elite team just yet. They will probably be around .500 this year and miss the playoffs again. As far as NFL">free NFL sports picks go, don't even think about picking them to go to the Super Bowl this year.

Baseball Memorabilia and Sports Collectibles

When you think of baseball memorabilia and sports collectibles, do you think of baseball cards or do you think of the signed jerseys, the throwback jerseys, jackets, hats, helmets, the pictures, and hero posters? Well, there are many ways to show your support by collecting items of your favorite team or player.

People collect for other sports as well, such as baseball, NASCAR, basketball, football, golf. Some items that are found to be fun to collect are die cast models, Bobble Heads, Hero Posters and the newest items are The Fat Heads items. These are life-like, life-sized replicas of sports heroes that can be safely stuck to your wall. With all of the things you can collect, it is no wonder that some are confused as to where to start or how to start collecting sports memorabilia and sports collectibles. Collecting any sports memorabilia or sports collectibles is a very personal hobby that has value based more on the individuals likes and passions as much as the success of the individual player or team.

For those of us who want to buy that special someone something unique related to their favorite NASCAR driver, basketball, baseball, football or golf player, team, or sport, what do you look for? If they are into baseball memorabilia, you might want to consider the St Louis Cardinals. They not only won the World Series in 2006 but they also have some of the all time greats like Alber Pujols, Scott Rolen, and Yadier Molina. On the other hand, maybe they are into NASCAR. Then you have Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, and the reigning champion Jimmy Johnson. Maybe your sports fanatic is a woman. Well, she may like Danica Patrick who has taken Indy Racing Leagues by storm. We cannot forget the late and great Dale Earnhardt Sr. whose collectibles have not only doubled but tripled since his death and seem to be growing in value even more each year. As with many great painters like Picasso, Earnhardt fans refuse to allow his dream and legacy to die.

When it comes to NASCAR, you might want to not only look into the cars, but Plush Bears designed after the driver, year books and autobiographies, key chains and lighters, plates, glasses, clocks and more for your home. You will even find out that baseball memorabilia and sports collectibles have spread into the Christmas decorations with entire villages and decorations for the tree to the roof of your sports fan's home.

However, there are other great sports stars as well, including sports greats like Ben Roethlisberger, Shaquille O'Neil, and Nomar Garciaparra. Moreover, let us not forget the ever-resounding Michael Jordan. When throwback jerseys were mentioned, you may or may not have realized how much these have iNFLuenced sports memorabilia, but in 1980, when the NBA, MLB, and NFL began selling both new and the ones used in games, it pushed the collectors to wanting even more.

The die cast scene has changed as well. Fire trucks were a hot item at one time, but they have revolved back to the older muscle cars and the newer hotrod collectibles. Then we have the over all baseball memorabilia and sports collectors who grab anything from a picture of Tiger Woods to Los Angeles Lakers for basketball, or the Indianapolis Colts, the NFL Super Bowl Champions. Even the seven-time champion of the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, has a strong following for memorabilia and sports collectibles.

When it comes to the value of the items you collect, remember that the more famous the star, the more expensive the baseball memorabilia and sports collectible items will be. If the item can be verified as authentic in some way, that really adds to the value. Make sure you keep any items related to your sports collectible or sports memorabilia. These would include the original box, any correspondence or signatures, receipts, etc. These will all help to make the item more valuable and collectible.

Sports Betting 101- How to Bet on NBA Basketball

Basketball can be one of the tougher sports to handicap for novices, most believe that teams will perform the same (good or bad) in each outing because there are no weather concerns like those that exist in football, while it is indeed true that each basketball contest takes place indoors, most fail to realize how hard it is to play a sting of back to back to back games and especially if travel is involved, in this article we will look at the various factors that must be considered when handicapping NBA hoops.

Certain principles hold true no matter what sport you are handicapping, for example, injuries play a key role in any sporting event but plays a much bigger role in the NBA because they only have five starters on the hardwood versus 22 total starters on an NFL team and also have much less depth on their overall roster, this means that you really need to know the injury situation and who the backup player is before making a wager on an NBA game.

Another consideration is where the game will be played, home court is a much larger factor in the NBA than in the NFL, this comes into play when the home team is listed as the doggie and the visiting team has injuries or is in the midst of a three game or more road trip, keep in mind that road weary teams have tired legs and tired legs lose games in the final minutes.

The NBA is similar to the NFL in that fans also double as gamblers, this means that certain teams have a public following that will place wagers on them no matter what the posted point spread is, usually this can be exploited when this public team is playing at home and laying a bushel full of points to a divisional rival.

Always remember to "Line shop" for the best possible number on your team of choice in order to better enhance your chances of a winning wager, also, beware of laying the hook with road favorites and especially when key numbers are involved, a key number in the NBA is defined as any number which is a multiple of two, the reason why of course is because a basket is worth two points.

Never forget that a winning gambler is a hard working gambler, its best to stay one step ahead of the betting public by being more prepared than they are, this means that you need to know about bad scheduling situations, team chemistry problems, and injury concerns before the public, the information is readily available to everyone but its really an issue of who will go the extra mile by doing the research.

Jim Campbell runs http://www.FootballForecastor.com which has been an internet based sports handicapping service since 1997, you will be hard pressed to find another handicapper that has had the kind of success Jim has had, over the past eight years he has maintained one of the very best winning percentages of any sports handicapping service.

Jim Campbell finished the final four weeks of the 2005 NFL regular season with a mark of 14-5-2 ATS coming down the stretch for a winning rate of 73.68% and for the season in the NFL he finished with an overall mark of 48-33-4 ATS for a winning rate of 59.26% and that includes a perfect mark of 7-0 ATS in the NFL Playoffs, Jim has posted a mark of 6-2 ATS over the past EIGHT years with his Super Bowl selections.

Sports Betting 101- How to Bet on College Football

College Football is still considered the king amongst many for wagering purposes due to the sheer number of games played by the various teams in the various divisions on a weekly basis, which means that in truth there are indeed many more opportunities that can be found in terms of sheer "value" in College sports over professional sports, however, most do not understand that while wagering on College football is almost identical to wagering on the NFL, the handicapping principles involved are totally different, below you will find some solid advice from Jim Campbell which has greatly contributed to his achieving a total combined average winning rate of 59.88% in all sports over the past EIGHT years.

1) Use discipline in the number of games you wager on weekly, you must have a sound money management game plan in place which from the outside looking in, is based on a wagering concept of "units per game", but on the inside is really based on percentage of bankroll. I recommend NEVER wagering more than 5% of your total bankroll on any given game and no more than 25% of your total bankroll on any given weekend. Most wagers should fall within the 2% or 3% range, you can then either use a "flat betting" system in which you wager the same amount on each game or use a "best bet" format in which you rate your games highest to lowest and assign your betting percentages accordingly.

2) Most novices or beginning gamblers should use a flat betting system based on percentage of bankroll for the best long-term results, for example, if your starting bankroll is $5000 then a 2% wager on a contest would be $100, meanwhile a 3% wager from the same $5000 starting bankroll would be a $150 wager. A flat bettor would then wager either $100 or $150 on each contest but not exceed the 25% of total bankroll mark of $1250 (based on the same starting bankroll of $5000) over the course of the week. Once the weekend results are finalized you would then have a different bankroll total based on your winnings or loses for the week, this becomes your new bankroll, the next week you would then adjust upward or downward the amounts wagered on a per game basis based on your new "percentage of bankroll" numbers. Remember that everyone will have their share of good weeks and everyone will have their share of bad weeks, the idea is to not place all of your eggs in one basket, you must be able to survive the bad weeks if you want to come out ahead in the long term.

3) A good strategy to follow is to focus in on the local teams in your neck of the woods, the reasoning is simplistic in that in most cases a gambler first started as a fan, meaning that in general terms no one knows the local teams better than a local fan which in this case is YOU, however, you must be careful not to bet with your heart and instead use your head, for example, although I advocate using off-shore sports books as a means of having multiple outs for the purpose of "line-shopping", I also advocate using a local book when placing a wager against a local team, the reason is based on line "value", in many cases a local line on a local team can vary by as many as one or two points, mainly because of the fact that the vast majority of local fans wager on local teams which in turn means that a local line is often different that a national line on the very same game.

One of the nations most prolific handicappers is Jim Campbell who can be found at http://www.footballforecastor.com, he once again showed his expertise by finishing the 2005-2006 college football season with an overall amazing and eye opening mark of 49-32-1 ATS for a winning rate of 60.49% which includes a record of 9-4 ATS with his College Bowl selections and also includes his winning selection of Texas over USC in the BCS National Championship Game, that winning result on Texas means that Jim Campbell has now correctly picked the point spread winner in the past EIGHT straight College National Championship games.

Over the past 35 yrs plus, Jim Campbell has been on both sides of the Sports Investment Business, as a entrepreneur that ran his own business, to building and maintaining a private clientele base that greatly benefits from his superior handicapping expertise in the sporting arena.

Jim Campbell runs www.FootballForecastor.com which has been an internet based sports handicapping service since 1997, you will be hard pressed to find another handicapper that has had the kind of success Jim has had, over the past eight years he has maintained one of the very best winning percentages of any sports handicapping service.

Top 50 Greatest Moments in Sports History (50 - 26)

I was bored and started thinking of some of the greatest moments in the history of sports in which I could remember. I am only 23 so there are numerous occasions I have surely missed or cannot remember.

Given the content of this post, there is going to be a lot of disagreements as well as a few agreements here and there. Just remember, this is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I would also like to point out that you may notice quite a few baseball moments on here. I have played baseball all my life so I am a little biased towards the sport.

This is part 1, and I should have part 2 up hopefully within the next day or so. Check out 50 - 26 after the jump:

50.) Julius "Dr. J" Erving and just about every dunk he had.

His dunk from the free throw line in the dunk contest, or his reverse dunk where he basically travels in the air for five seconds are 2 prime examples.

49.) Roger Federer wins his 15th Grand Slam title breaking Pete Sampras's record of 14.

I liked Pete more as a tennis player, and feel he would win if they both played each other in their primes, but Roger is a good guy and you have to give him his due.

48.) New England Patriots lose Super Bowl XLII, ending their perfect season.

Not much else to say about this, other than the fact the Giants basically dominated the entire game.

47.) Michael Vick and the dog fighting scandal.

He had a decent career going, good sponsorships, and plenty of money. Yet he felt it was necessary to have some pitbulls tear each other up. Smart move Mike.

46.) OJ Simpson's life in general.

Getting accused of murdering his wife, running from the cops, robbing a store, and possibly kidnapping someone is just an ordinary day for OJ. I wonder what his weekends are like?

45.) The NBA Dream Team of the 1992 Olympics.

I remember when the NBA was watchable, and the players played for the love of the game rather than the money. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Earvin "Magic" Johnson were just a few of the players that made the game great back then.

44.) Rulon Gardner defeats the Russian, Alexandre Kareline.

Not many people thought this American wrestler could come close to beating this seemingly invincible Russian, but low and behold the underdog strikes again. We struck gold!

43.) Bob Knight and that temper we come to know and love.

Whether it was the hundreds of technical fouls, the chair toss across the floor, or busting up that TV, Bob Knight knew how to coach and entertain the crowd. "Everybody hears, but few listen." - Bob Knight

42.) Eight men out for the 1919 World Series.

Eight men conspiring with gamblers to intentionally throw the 1919 World Series seems beyond belief, and yet (they were found innocent, but facts were lost) it still took place. A championship would be more important than money, but I guess things change once you see that green.

41.) Ohio State defeats Miami (FL) for the 2002 NCAA football National Championship.

I know this is not one of the top 50 moments in sporting history, but I am a Buckeye fan and it was a great double OT victory. In case you did not know, the Buckeyes finished 14-0 that season...BOOM!

40.) Mary Lou Retton's perfect 10 on the vault.

Being 16 and knowing that you need a perfect 10 on you next vault to win the gold medal can take a toll on many of us. Mary, on the other hand, took to the pressure and nailed her vault sending her to gold.

39.) Kordell Stewart's hail mary pass to defeat #4 Michigan.

Not only did he beat the team I despise most, but he threw the ball about 73 yards in the air to score the game winning touchdown. Maybe Kordell can tell this story to his grand-kids one day, because he sure as hell doesn't have many NFL stories to tell.

38.) Don Larson's pitches a perfect game in game 5 of the 1956 World Series.

Not only is a perfect game extremely hard to accomplish, Don is the only player in the history of baseball to throw a perfect game in any World Series game. His career never mounted to much, but at least he has one moment to look back on.

37.) Franco Harris catches the deflected pass from Terry Bradshaw for the Immaculate Reception.

Many recognize this as one of the greatest plays in NFL history. I credit it as on of the luckiest plays in NFL history, but to each his own; it is still a sweet way to win an AFC divisional playoff game.

36.) Super Bowl I - Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs.

Although the game was a little one sided (Green Bay won 35-10), this was still the birth of one of the most watched and celebrated games of the year for us today. I usually just watch for the commercials, and the game is a bonus.

35.) Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson go MMA on the crowd.

This was one of the craziest things I have ever witnessed. Players fighting players makes sense, but fighting people in the crowd (still in the stands mind you) is just ludicrous. I would have gladly paid money to see this, and possibly even be involved. How about you?

34.) San Francisco 49ers' Dwight Clark catches game winning touchdown in back of endzone.

Regarded to as "The Catch," Dwight Clark caught the winning touchdown reception to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship Game. He was the San Francisco treat! Get it? Rice-A-Roni. I understand if you didn't laugh, you just don't have a sense of humor.

33.) Rocky Marciano retires from boxing in 1956 with a perfect 49-0 record as a heavyweight.

Out of his 49 wins, 43 were by knockout. I don't know about you, but that is damn impressive in my book. Of course I never got to see him fight, but who cares, 49-0 is 49-0.

32.) Emmitt Smith breaks all-time rushing record.

He may not have always been the tallest, or the fastest, or the strongest (I am paraphrasing Emmitt from the Little Giants moive), but he was smart and ran 100% full go every time. I believe Barry Sanders would hold this record if he would not have went into early retirement, but my hat's off to Emmitt for this feat.

31.) Texas defeats USC in the 2006 NCAA football National Championship game.

The fact that no defense could stop the opposing teams offense, except for Texas on that 4th down stop, this was just an all around great game. Texas was a huge underdog, but Vince Young stepped his game up and came through in the clutch. I am a sucker for those underdog victories.

30.) Mike Tyson bites Evander Holyfield's ear off.

Ok, he doesn't completely bite his ear off, but it was still a pretty gruesome nibble. The fight was looking to be epic, but Tyson just could not resist a tasty treat.

29.) The Miami Dolphin's go undefeated in 1972.

They accomplished what the Patriots could not, perfection. Going undefeated in any professional sport, in any day and age, is near impossible and should be recognized by everyone. You know any players that are still alive from this team were jumping for joy when New England lost. Good stuff!

28.) Larry Bird vs. Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

Not only did these two duke it out in the 1979 NCAA basketball championship game, but they also faced each other in three NBA title games (84, 85, and 87). Bird and Magic played the game with integrity and passion, this is what I miss most about the NBA.

27.) Mark McGwire breaks Roger Marris's home run record of 61.

Roger Marris went through a tough time when he broke the Babe's home run record. Mark did not have it very rough, but I was glad to see the record broken because it sparked some more interest in baseball again (steroids aside). It's cliche, but records are meant to be broken.

26.) Terrorists murdering 11 Olympic athletes at the Munich Olympics.

There really aren't words that can describe the feelings and emotions people felt after this tragic occurrence, but I guess it makes us stronger and appreciate what we have.

The Rich Professional Sports Past and Present of a Well Known Southeast City of Ohio

Cincinnati is undoubtedly a city with a rich and interesting history. Many people know that the city was once known as Porkopolis due to the large amount of pork produced in the downtown area. However, what some people fail to realize is that there are many other great things about the city in the past and present as well. For example, orthodontics and braces are also known for their quality and excellence.

In addition to excellence in the field of dentistry, Cincinnati also has a rich tradition in professional sports. Currently there are two major pro sports teams in the city, the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). Also, in the now fairly distant past, the Queen City had a basketball team called the Cincinnati Royals, for which NBA hall of famer and University of Cincinnati graduate Oscar Robertson played. In the upcoming paragraphs all three of these interesting professional sports teams will be discussed along with a review of how the two currently existing teams have done in their recent seasons.

The Cincinnati Reds are one of the older teams in professional baseball and in fact used to be known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Currently the team plays in the Central division of the National League. In their past the team has had both some excellent success and some truly miserable failures. In fact, from the year 1970 to 1976 the team was given the nickname of "The Big Red Machine", which was a time of unprecedented success for the team that brought two World Series Championships. The most infamous player of all time was Pete Rose, who on talent and achievements alone deserves to be in the hall of fame. However, his partaking in and admitting to gambling on baseball games while playing has barred him from receiving that magnanimous honor.

The other major professional sports team in Cincinnati is the Cincinnati Bengals of professional football. The team has in fact never won a Super Bowl and was closest when Boomer Esiason played at Quarterback, losing in the Super Bowl to San Francisco. Recently the team has found some success under Coach Marvin Lewis, and they in fact have made the playoffs two times in the past five seasons.

Lastly, the Cincinnati Royals used to be a professional basketball team in the city. A local star from the University of Cincinnati named Oscar Robertson, who is now an NBA hall of famer, was the star of the team and they met with a reasonable amount of success. The team in fact had been moved around all over the nation, originating in Rochester then stopping in Cincinnati and Kansas City before making their final stop in Sacramento where they are now known as the Kings.

Despite the fact that most of them are not horribly successful these days, as anyone can tell from the preceding paragraphs, Cincinnati has a very diverse and rich history in professional sports.

2009 Expert NFL Sports Picks - Atlanta Falcons

Last season marked one of the biggest turnarounds in franchise history for the "Dirty Birds". They went from laughingstock after the Michael Vick era to the playoffs in one season. This happened in no small part thanks to rookie quarterback Matt Ryan as well as free agent acquisition Michael Turner. The new GM in town had a fantastic first year out from under the Patriots shadow. They had a magical run until they ran into Kurt Warner and the high-flying Cardinals in the playoffs. Now the question is, can they take the next step? If you're looking for free NFL sports picks don't expect to see them in the Super Bowl this season.

The Good News: The biggest and best news of the off-season was acquiring "All-World" tight end Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez basically carried the Chiefs offense on his back the last few years which is saying a lot for a tight end. He holds the all-time records for every major statistical category for tight ends and he seems to be getting better with age. His experience and preparation will help the rest of his teammates.

In addition to Gonzalez, Matt Ryan will have another year under his belt. After a superb rookie season, he should have a better year this year. He's also still got the running game behind him with Michael Turner running the ball. They also added a couple of good defenders in the draft this year. Defensive tackle Peria Jerry and safety William Moore will go a long way towards bolstering the defense this year.

The Bad News: The best thing about last season for the Falcons was the cupcake schedule that they had. They played some pretty bad teams last year including the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately for them, the league seems to want to showcase them against some of the better teams this year. As always, they'll have to play the teams from the NFC South twice. However, the non-division portion of their schedule will be a lot tougher.

Many quarterbacks seem to suffer from a sophomore slump. The Falcons will figure out real quick if Matt Ryan's rookie season was a fluke or not. Will the interception bug that plagued him at Boston College come back to bite him again?

Outlook: The Falcons will again have a good offense this year. Tony G. is going to get his regardless of who he's playing with. He put up monster numbers last year with four different quarterbacks throwing him the ball. However, I think the tough schedule will be tough for them to overcome. They weren't really one of the best teams last year, but merely a product of the system. This was on full display as they got steamrolled by the Cardinals in the playoffs. As far as NFL/afc,AF29_71">free NFL sports picks go, I wouldn't put my money on "Matty Ice" to improve on last season's record.

The Top Sports Stories Now Playing on Satellite TV

A typical year will bring a lot of drama from the sports world onto television sets, but there are rare instances when a year becomes special. From the World Cup appearance of a decent U.S. team to an MLB pennant race for the ages, it looks this year is one of the special ones. A Lakers-Celtics 7-game NBA finals has already raised the bar, but it looks like the best is yet to come. Follow the progress of these five stories on satellite TV as a special year in sports only gets better.

1. The battle for Lebron James. We've heard of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Battle of the Bulge, but this year the Battle for Lebron has officially gotten underway. Even though it looks like the NBA's top player would like to stay in Cleveland, management has never quite found a way to make the supporting cast worthy of James. Could he possibly make Miami an early favorite by joining the Heat? Would that almost guarantee the return of Dwayne Wade? NBA TV and ESPN will be covering all the drama.

2. The World Cup. Everyone keeps saying how soccer will never become popular in the United States, but you can be sure a strong showing at the World Cup would get millions of people interested. What would constitute a strong showing? Leaving the group stages and moving on to the final 8 teams would probably be what the U.S. team has to do in order to generate a real buzz. Their advance to the last world finals was a great moment, but they need to capitalize on that start. Follow the World Cup on satellite TV.

3. The return of Tiger Woods. Will this year end up being the Year of the Tiger? The Chinese zodiac would say so, but the world's best golfer has still got to prove that he can overcome a disturbing scandal and get back to his original love of golf. All the second-tier players are frothing at the mouth, knowing that the fall of Woods would mean they can take the place that is rightfully theirs. Special players like Woods only come along once in a generation (or more). If he can't return to form, golf will be changed forever.

4. The AL Pennant Race. It's been a few years since Yankees-Red Sox really heated up, but things have really gotten interesting with the return of the Rays. Three teams in the AL East, two teams from the Central and two out of the West are vying for the pennant. It's going to be a great year for anyone with an HD MLB package.

5. A new NL champion. Few fans like the idea of a dynasty, unless the one in question is your favorite team. This year's NL pennant looks like it won't be going to the Phillies, as numerous legitimate contenders have presented themselves for consideration. Atlanta and the Mets are trying to rule out a playoff appearance at all for the Phils.

See what type of sports coverage would come your way with direct star TV packages. From an NFL package on cable to baseball and world soccer, satellite TV will be covering the top stories of the year.

5 Sports Packages That Deliver the Goods Via Satellite

It has become fairly clear what every sports fan wants these days. For starters, you don't want to be left without access to the big showdown whenever it is happening, wherever it is happening. Second, you want the best picture quality that can be delivered to a TV screen. All in all, it's not asking for too much Nowadays a fan can get all that, plus have the opportunity to check into new sports and new teams. Here are five high def packages that deliver the goods on satellite networks.

1. NFL Sunday Ticket. When Sunday rolls around during the NFL season, there's no doubt in a football fan's mind that everything else will take a back seat to the big game. The Sunday Ticket package is the key to getting all the action in high def technology. The big networks don't have the game you want? There is some local blackout blocking your access? With this package, you're never left outside without a ticket. It's the answer to the hungry football fan's cravings.

2. NBA League Pass. There are many ways to describe national coverage on the NBA these days. Meager, insufficient and unsubstantial are a few words that come to mind. While Allen Iverson has been known as the Answer for years, you might look to this package as the latest answer as Iverson heads toward retirement. Plenty of NBA action that had zero coverage in the past can come to your screen in high definition. Once you couple that with NBA TV and ESPN, you'll get your fill of prime-time hoops.

3. NHL Center Ice. The NHL is gaining in popularity by the year, making Canada's sport actually one of the real American Pastimes. Maybe it's the Cinderella stories like the Philadelphia Flyers of 2010 that are reeling in the fans, or maybe it's the intensity of the action every night in the rinks around North America. This is not a gentleman's game by any means, but a clash of violence and skill.

4. MLB Extra Innings. For the sports package with the most coverage of all, you'll do yourself a favor by picking up MLB Extra Innings. Baseball season is completely stacked with action for six months - and that's before the playoffs. Games are beamed in nightly from around the country, making it hard to pick which ones to watch. Of course, using some of the split-screen options, you don't have to decide on just one. There is no better way to follow the pennant races as the season heats up.

5. Regional network packages. Maybe the unsung hero of all the packages is the regional network pack. Thirty-plus networks from around the country are at your disposal, meaning no sport is left out and no team is shunned for any of the seasons. You'll cover a lot of bases when you get access to multiple sport cities like Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia. It might possibly deliver the most overall bang for the buck.

Check out the options from Direct TV when you want total sports coverage. The directtv sports packages will never leave you on the outside looking in.
